Model-turned-actress Bipasha Basu, 27, says Mumbai is the best city in the world because it’s safe for women!
Mumbai (formerly Bombay) is the heart of the world’s largest film industry, Bollywood. Bollywood and the other major cinematic hubs (Tamil, Marathi, Bengali, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada) constitute the broader Indian film industry, whose output is the largest in the world in terms of number of films produced and in number of tickets sold.
“I think Mumbai is a great place for women. Also, the people here are always there to give you a helping hand,” Basu told the Asian Age Newspaper. “There’s no place like this city in the world.”
The Bollywood sex symbol, Bipasha Basu, was born in Mumbai and grew up in the eastern city of Calcutta. But she’s lived in Mumbai, the hub of the country’s entertainment industry, for more than five years now. She is the winner of the Ford Supermodel of the World (contest) when she was 17 and now works in mainstream Bollywood films. She was named Tulips Miss Super Vivacious and also considered one of the most desirable women in Asia.
Basu is currently dating model-turned-actor John Abraham. She is one of the most successful bollywood sex symbols who has acted in more than 22 movies since she entered the movie industry five years ago. Her recent hit films include Corporate, Dhoom 2 and Omkara, a film based on Shakespeare’s Othello.

Bipasha’s debut film Ajnabee (2001) was fairly successful and she was soon signed for other movies. She attracted attention with her roles in Raaz (2002) and Jism (2003). Jism featured more mature content than had previously been customary in Bollywood; it was a success and Bipasha was afterwards marketed as a sex symbol.
Basu’s other movies include “No Entry”, “Phir Hera Pheri”, “Corporate” and her latest release Dhoom2.
Bipasha Basu has also appeared in music videos, such as Tu Kab Ye Janegi… for Sonu Nigam’s album, Kismat and in Jay Sean’s Stolen.
