For many, Tusshar Kapoor may come across as a spoilt rich kid basking in the glory of his family’s achievements. But an hour-long interaction with this actor and one is forced to change one’s perception of him.
When we enter his bungalow in a plush Mumbai suburb of Juhu, we are welcomed into a home, which is done up in white marble and decorated with Murano glass artefacts.
But quite unlike his overdressed house, Tusshar himself is simply clad in a pair of jeans and a chequered shirt. Indeed, Tusshar is no Johnny-come-lately who wandered into the industry hoping to capitalise on his father’s name. Despite being born with the proverbial silver spoon in his mouth, this young actor seems to have all his values in the right place but also boasts of a professional work ethic.
Excerpts from an interview:
Did it ever scare you taking up acting as a profession? After all, your father was one of the most successful actors in his time?
No, quite frankly that was never a deterrent. Don’t forget I was not a fresh kid off the block. I had tried my hand at other things but realised that my heart lay in acting. By then, I knew making a success of anything in life is a tough call especially Bollywood. So I entered the industry well prepared for the grind.
What were you doing before you came into the industry? I also heard you were an ICSE topper in Mathematics?
Well, (he appears a trifle impressed) you seem to have done your homework. It’s true I scored 99/100. Those days, nobody was given full marks. Then after school I went off to America, Detroit actually where I did my graduation in business studies. I have always had a head for figures.
