Another entertainment channel, another celeb dance show. Ex-Star boss Peter Mukerjea and his wife Indrani have a tough task on their hands, by breaking into a cluttered Hindi general entertainment segment. Promoting their new channel 9X, they announced the launch of one of their most ambitious shows - Dhamaal Express.
Held at The Club in suburban Mumbai, the event brought together some of the biggest names in television. The evening began on a low-key note as only a select few like Gaurav Ghera and Tasneem Sheikh and other lesser-known prime time faces trickled in.
Things picked up with Mona Singh making a stylish entry with close pal Karan Oberoi (yes they are still together contrary to tabloid reports). Singh gladly chatted with the media and press photographers as Oberoi let her hog all the attention. Next up was Urvashi Dholakia (who’s done something to her hair again), followed by Rajashree Thakur, Ali Asgar, Shakti Anand with wife Sai, Rohit and Mansi Roy. Among the late entrants were the Nach Baliye finalists Hussain and Yash Tonk. While Yash was in high spirits wife Gauri looked rather bored and sat quietly in one corner.
Dhamaal Express is going to be a single three hour-long special episode, where 20 TV stars will dance to parodies of popular Bollywood numbers. Shot on a lavish scale, the makers of the show claim to have packed in nine (get the connection?) different stories, which will be narrated through song and dance with a proper script.
The show will be hosted by TV’s favourite devar-bhabhi duo-Saakshi Tanwar and Ali Asgar of Kahanii Ghar Ghar Ki fame. The line-up of stars dancing on stage mainly comprises participants from earlier seasons of Nach and Jhalak. Nevertheless it’s quite a starry affair with the likes of Shweta Tiwari, Hussain, Roshni Chopra, Mona Singh, Urvashi Dholakia, Maanav Gohil, Romit Raj, Sudha Chandran, Karishma Tanna and Yash Tonk.
We could not help but notice how the line p is a Balaji affair all together. Looks like Ekta is going all out to support the man who green signalled the entire Balaji wave on Star.
While the party went on till late, it was rather surprising that main conversation between the guests was not really television, but OSO v/s Saawariya. Overheard Asgar going gaga over Akshay’s OSO cameo. Dancing to Bollywood numbers, discussing blockbusters… Seems telly land is very much under a Bollywood hangover.
