Officers of Shemaroo got wind of massive video piracy, which was happening, at Bohivada, Parel. Mr Gnanchand Maroo head of the anti-piracy team at Shemaroo Entertainment along with a few members went to meet the Mumbai Police.
Subsequently, Mane and Chavan along with some other officers the Shemaroo anti-piracy team raided one particular manufacturing unit. Here they seized 12,000 DVDs/ VCDs and also a television, printer, scanner, copier, and other miscellaneous equipment used in the copying process. The market value of the total equipment was estimated at about Rs 1.10 crore.
The pirated CDs included films such as Om Shanti Om, Saawariya, Bhool Bhulaiya, Bal Ganesh and many other films in large quantities.
Swapnil Aacharekar and Ruchik Rajan Ghadiyali are two of the people who were arrested in the raid.
