Karunanidhi’s story to be filmed
A short story wriiten 43 years ago will be made into a movie
A short story penned by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi 43 years ago is set to be made into a film by director P. Kannan.
Karunanidhi wrote the story, Saarappallam Chamundi, for the special Pongal issue of DMK journal Murasoli in 1964.
The same story was re-published in the Republic Day issue of the journal under the title Uliyin Oasai in the same year.
The film will be made under the second title, which means Sound of the Hammer, and will be released on Pongal, the harvest festival of Tamil Nadu that falls in January. The Periya Kovil in Thanjavur, built by Raja Raja Chola, provides the backdrop for the story. Legend has it that the king wanted 108 special sculptures to be made in the temple but only 82 could be completed. The story is about why the project remained incomplete. Poet Ilavenil will write the screenplay and dialogues. Maestro Ilyaraja will compose the music for the film produced by SP Murugesan under the banner of J. Nandini Arts. The cast for the film, which will hit the marquee on Jan 14, is yet to be finalised. Karunanidhi started his career as a scriptwriter and shot to fame with Parasakti, which was thespian Sivaji Ganesan’s debut vehicle. After a long gap, he scripted for the movie Kannamma in 2005. Although it flopped at the box office, all eyes are now on Uliyin Oasai. Del.Icio.Us Tags: Karunanidhi’s story to be filmed Technorati Tags: Karunanidhi’s story to be filmed
