It started out as the biggest face-off of this season -- ’Shahrukh Khan’ vs ’Sanjay Leela Bhansali’ at the Box Office. The verdict for the much touted clash of the titans -- ’Om Shanti Om’ vs ’Sawariya’ -- at the Box Office turned out to be a rather damp squib with King Khan’s ’Om Shanti Om’ getting a better response than Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ’Saawariya’.
In Delhi, most of the people have given thumbs-up to Shahrukh’s ’Om Shanti Om’, but unfortunately the magic of Sonam Kapoor and Ranbir Kapoor failed to work.
When quizzed about Farah Khan’s ’OSO’, majority of the people said that the movie was good and is full paisa vasool. While talking about ’Saawaria’, majority of the people felt that the movie didn’t have a story line and was a drag. Couple of people argued in favour of Bhansali’s movie saying that though differently portrayed, the movie is nice.
While in Mumbai too, the opinion of the audience was mixed with most of the people, who were quizzed speaking in favour of Farah Khan’s ’OSO’. While a few people praised ’Saawaria’. A movie buff said:’Saawaria’ is a "pathetic movie but Sonam Kapoor and Ranbir Kapoor have really acted well." Another movie lover said:"It’s a very slow movie, though the movie was only for 2 &1/2 hours but felt like it was four hours."
The race between this year’s most awaited movies wasn’t as close as we all expected with the audience making it pretty clear that ’Om Shanti Om’ was pretty much the favourite.
With the reviews already trickling in, it remains to be seen as to how the paying public reacts to this.
However, it’s too early to predict. While it may not look like a very Happy Diwali for ’Saawariya’ all is not lost as many films start out slowly but then manage to pick up later -- the classic example being ’Chak De’. So Ranbir and Sonam may still get a chance to live up to the hype inspite of critics disparaging the film.
