Scandal has hit the Marathi film industry with a 17-year-old aspiring actress accusing senior Marathi film actor Ramesh Bhatkar of taking sexual favours in exchange for a role in a Marathi film.
But more damning is the fact that Bhatkar may even have used the influence of his wife - a judge in the 7/11 Mumbai blasts case - to influence to terrorise his alleged victim.
The aspiring actress claims she was raped by Bhatkar and Marathi film producer Ravi Naidu, putting a question mark on the so-called “clean” reputation of the Marathi film industry.
"Mujhe kaha kee meri biwi judge hain, main aur mere dost toh buch jayenge lekin tumhe aur tumhari ma ko jail bhej doonga (He said my wife is a judge. Even if you file a case I will go scot-free and your mother will be jailed),” says the victim.
According to the girl, she was introduced to Naidu in March 2007 by her uncle and aunt, after she failed her Class X exams.
Naidu allegedly promised her a role in his new film, called her for a screen test and then both he and Bhatkar allegedly raped her at Naidu’s bunglow in Pune.
When Naidu went to the police station to apply for anticipatory bail, he was attacked by RPI activists. In his defence , Naidu claims it he is the victim.
"Ladki ki ma mere ghar kam karti thee, usko zyada paisa chahiye tha aur woh blackmail kar rahee thi mujhko (The girl’s mother worked at my house. She needed money was blackmailing me)," he says.
While Naidu, Bhatkar and three others have managed to get interim anticipatory bail. The police are now waiting for medical reports.
