Akshay Kumar, we have learnt has shelled out an eye popping Rs 26 crore in taxes for the fiscal year, 2006-07 and emerged the highest tax payer amongst Bollywood stars. He is also on his way to stand amongst the highest individual tax payers of the nation.
Last year, Akshay had paid a mere Rs. 6.6 crore as compared to this year’s whopping Rs. 26 crore. The rest Bollywood stars’ tax figures were reported then as, the Bachchans (15.59 crore), Hrithik Roshan (15.10 crore), Shah Rukh Khan (14 crore) and Kareena Kapoor (2.9 crore).
In 2007, Akshay has delivered four back to back hits (Namastey London, Heyy Babyy, Bhool Bhulaiyaa and Welcome) and his midas touch has become the talk of tinsel-town. Throughout the year, he had been offered three film contracts with dream sums but he had declined them all and preferred to dictate his own terms when it came to his acting fees per film. Just recently, it was learnt that when he had quoted Rs.20 crore as his acting fee, the top production house offering him that project did not think twice before agreeing to it and immediately went ahead with the deal.
An industry trade analyst states, “The Khiladi Kumar is being touted to earn at least Rs. 100-120 crore in this year from his acting assignments. Plus, in addition there are stage shows abroad scheduled and many top brand endorsing deals on his way apart from the existing ones. The total figure might end up extremely mind boggling. The King Khan surely has competition from him even if might deny to agree that.”
Akshay’s releases for 2008 are, Yash Raj’s Tashan that’s to be released on 25th April, Anees Bazmee directed Singh Is Kinng scheduled for a August release, Warner Bros’ first Hindi production, Chandni Chowk To China, Sajid Nadiadwala’s Kambakth Ishq and Nagesh Kukunoor’s supernatural thriller, Eight By Ten. All these are already hot in the trade circuit and there are reports that he is also negotiated with a few producers amongst these on profit sharing terms.
So, though he might have not been officially crowned a Bollywood superstar yet, these present developments might definitely propel him in the Superstars league.
