The name Kareena Kapoor leaves most actresses foaming at the mouth. Even her older sister who is relatively more difficult-to-irritate has had her fair share of tiffs. Ask Kajol: they had a public spat once over Ajay Devgan. But when it comes to the loves of their lives, these two sisters are roles models of discretion. they may kiss, but they sure don’t go spilling the beans all over town.
As any kid will tell you, Abhishek Bachchan and Karisma Kapoor are history. They’ve both moved on in life. Karisma has retired from the limelight and divides her time between Mumbai and Delhi. Abhishek Bachchan is busy climbing the ladder of success, with a considerable amount of push and shove that he receives from both his father and his wife Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.
But Abhishek and Karisma were in madly in love at one point and they were desperate to tie the knot. But this was one instance where parental pressure actually succeeded in cracking up the relationship. Jaya Bachchan was opposed to the relationship from day one. With the result the young couple kept the relationship under wraps for a long time.
Finally, after about three years of courtship, the couple got formally engaged in October 2002. But by January 2003 they broke up. The split was announced to the media by Rishi Kapoor, Karisma’s uncle. Beyond that neither side was available for comment. Since it was agreed on that Karisma was the injured party, journalists hounded her for many months. But the lady behaved with decorum and disgnity. She refused to indulge in any kind of mud slinging and kept the press at arm’s length. Thankfully even Abhishek Bachchan behaved in a manner befitting the first family of filmdom.
The only person who could have shed some light on this incident was Jaya Bachchan. But considering her daughter is married to Karisma’s cousin, the lady was forced to keep her trap shut.
And thankfully for us, we were spared the gory details of a relationship-gone-sour.
