Salman Khan may have begun working out plans on his version of Tarzan but the original Tarzan, Hemant Birje is all set to launch his own version, titled Return of Tarzan on Wednesday evening at a Mumbai star hotel.
Salman had very recently announced his Tarzan to be directed by Anees Bazmee (No Entry, Welcome). His official website, quotes him stating, “I want to do the film for children. I have found out that I have a huge fan following among kids, and I want to dedicate this film to them.” He has also promised a whole new hair style for the role, one that according to him will become a style statement. On being asked would his Tarzan work at the box office, Salman had replied that if Hemant Birje could make Tarzan a hit film 20 years ago, then I am sure I too can make it.”
Now this very same Hemant Birje is himself producing and directing apart from enacting the title role in his Return of Tarzan. Playing his desi - Jane would be model turned actress Jennifer Mayani, who was last seen in Heyy Babyy in the scene along with Akshay Kumar when he goes baby food shopping in a mall. She also played one of Shah Rukh Khan’s personal aides in Om Shanti Om in the part where he plays Om Kapoor the super star.
Sharing more information about his film, Birje told us, “My Tarzan is about the jungle wonder coming to the city with his girlfriend and how a group of villains in the city compel him to go back to the jungle further leading to an exciting climax where he takes on them. Puneet Issar is playing the main villain. The script has been penned by the writer duo Naeem - Ejaz who have written films like Khiladi etc.”
Over 20 years have passed by since the B. Subhash directed Tarzan with him in the lead came. Does he think he is still the right candidate for the title role? “I have worked very hard on my physique and you can see the photographs with me in the new Tarzan look, I am looking stronger than I did 23 years back in the same role,” replies Birje.
But with Salman Khan also making a film on the same subject, how much does he fancy chances of his film being noticed? “I don’t think so there will be clash of any sorts. Each maker has his own vision to make a film which can differ. I have worked with Salman, in Garv - Pride and Honour (2004) and he is like a brother. I don’t see any reason for him to be upset with me for making a Tarzan film,” Birje concludes.
