Mumbai, (IANS) Music composer Rajesh Roshan is the pampered younger brother of filmmaker Rakesh Roshan, who has always been handed the best movies on a platter by his sibling.
“My best work is not reserved for my brother’s films. I think it is the other way round - he (Rakesh Roshan) reserves his best films for me,” Rajesh told IANS on e-mail.“More than being in the family, I feel as a director you should really know how to extract the best from your crew. This is one thing that Rakesh Roshan can do very well,” said the composer, who shot to fame with the hit movie of the 1970s, “Julie”.He composed music for his brother’s blockbusters “Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai”, “Koi Mil Gaya” and “Krrish”.He has just scored for “Krazzy 4″. Releasing April 11, the comedy has Arshad Warsi, Irrfan Khan, Dia Mirza, Rajpal Yadav, Suresh Menon, Rajat Kapoor and Juhi Chawla. Hrithik Roshan, Shah Rukh Khan and Rakhi Sawant make special appearances in item songs.“Well, the music of ‘Krazzy 4′ was a challenge to me as there were no romantic songs in it. It’s a funny satire and so item songs were required which is not really my genre.
“But Hrithik (Rajesh’s nephew), who really knows the flavour of the season and what youths like listening to, really guided me. It was very exciting to make such type of music.”
Before collaborating with his brother, Rajesh was associated with Basu Chatterjee and composed music for the director’s films “Swami”, “Priyatama” and “Baton Baton Mein”. Some of his other hits are “Kaamchor” and “Aakhir Kyon”.
While working on his compositions, Rajesh draws inspiration from three things.
“Three things inspire my music and me…the nuances of the story, the star cast and the personality and ability of the director. If these three things are there in a good mix, then there is nothing like it!”
From the current lot of singers, Rajesh says he likes Sukhwinder Singh, Vishal Dadlani and KK. “Some of the Pakistani singers have really good and unique voices.”
Apart from “Krazzy 4″, Rajesh is working on his brother’s next project “Kites” which will star Hrithik, Kangana Ranaut and Barbara Mori.
When asked about the reality shows dominating TV channels, he said: “Reality shows are good time pass for the audiences. Since it is live, the emotions portrayed are on the moment and real and so people are hooked on to it.”
