Bollywood’s serial kisser Emraan Hashmi is back. His next film, Jannat, hits the theatres in a fortnight. And in true Hashmi style, controversies surrounding his film aren’t far behind. But Emraan is far from perturbed.
He feels that any publicity is good publicity and only generates curiosity and hype for the movie and actor. “Controversies do not affect me too much because people in my life know what I am actually doing,” he says.
“Aaj kal log mujhe bookie ya middle man samajhte hain. Maine kaafi saare bookies aur ex-bookies se dosti ki aur Jannat ke liye unse bahut kuch seekha. Toh mein bookie terms aur odds kya hote hain samajhta hu, par mein bookie nahi hu,” says Emraan as he clears the air about his bookie fixation.
Emraan shares a steamy kiss with newcomer Sonal Chauhanin Jannat. But what happened to his claim of no more kissing scenes now that he was married?
“I guess I lied when I said I would not kiss in my films. I am not the only actor in Bollywood who does kissing scenes but I feel everything about me and my kissing is blown out of proportion. If cheerleaders are kissing me, you should ask them, not me!” he says referring to his recent presence at the IPL.
While Navjot Singh Sidhu has been bad mouthing him all over the place, Emraan has maintained his cool. “I think more than the Jannat promo claiming former cricketers are judging laughter shows, he is more upset with my kissing,” he laughs, “I respect Mr. Sidhu and I know he wants to express his opinion but I feel he should not take the comments personally. The Censor Board is the only authority to object to the scenes and dialogues of Jannat.”
So does Jannat have a character by the name of Bob Woolmer?
“Jannat is a fictional story based on bookmakers and match fixing and it does have a suspense sub-plot of an English Coach but his name is not Bob Woolmer. We have not portrayed anyone in a bad light,” informs the actor.
Mahesh Bhatt, Emraan’s uncle launched his career, so as a token of gratitude the actor pays him a certain amount of money after every film. “It is a token amount usually 10,000-25,000 rupees but if Jannat is a big hit, I will give him a blank cheque. It is my Guru-Dakshina,” he says.
Known to be a Bhatt camp loyalist, we asked Emraan if he would ever work with antoehr banner. “Oh yes, I am announcing the movie next month,” he signs off.
