After being a judge on Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, Urmila Matondkar has moved "one step ahead" and shall be hosting Sony’s new reality show, Waar Parriwar - Sangeet Ka Naya Gharana. The show was launched at RK Studios in Mumbai on April 21. Lavish sets designed by Omung Kumar welcomed us as we went in.
Urmila came in almost two hours late, but brought in cheer as soon as she did. Dressed in a blue denim dress with red shoes, she looked as young as ever. The actress is upbeat about hosting Waar Parriwar. "I have enjoyed music since I can remember. I was also excited about this show because it belongs to Gajendrra Siingh," said Urmila.
Urmila was of the opinion that the "best part about hosting a reality show is to be able to communicate and build up a rapport with people". She thinks she’s moving a step ahead from judging a reality show to hosting one. "Hosting brings in much bigger responsibility...taking the entire show on your shoulders and being able to deliver it," she said.
She even regaled the audience with a rendition of Jaane kya tune kahi..., demonstrating how confident she was about anchoring a singing reality show.
Gajendrra Siingh’s Waar Parriwar will be a fight between singing gharanas or families. Two such competing families sang at the launch. The first judges will be music director Ismail Darbar and his wife Ayesha. Veterans Usha and Hridaynath Mangeshkar are the resident gurus for the participants. The show begins on April 28 and shall be aired on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at 8 pm IST on Sony Entertainment Television.
