A live-in relationship with a man is fine with Esha Deol - and she says it’s fine with her mother Hema Malini too.
“I’d like to live with him for at least two years and then think of getting married,” says the bombshell who’s awaiting the release of her next film, Hijack, on Friday. Her reasoning is that it’s better to figure out what kind of person the other is, by living with him, before making a long term commitment.
And what man would turn down an offer like that?
But he’d have to have certain qualities, says Esha. “I think every girl wants her life partner to have some qualities of her father and I also want the same.
She says her father is the man she’s most familiar with and the one she most admired.
As for her mother, Esha says the star of the 70s would be open minded about a man sharing her daughter’s life without being married to her.
Hema Malini was a “modern kind of person and would not mind it” if Esha had a live-in relationship with someone.
The actress is hoping Hijack turns the tide in her career, which has been in ebb of late. Her last half dozen films have been flops and she has acquired a reputation for indiscipline.
At this phase in her career, Esha says she is looking for “meaningful cinema” though, she hastens to add, “I am happy with my sexy image. There is nothing wrong with being sexy”.
Hijack, she feels, uses her talents well. The film stars Shiney Ahuja.
“For the first time I will not be romancing my hero, neither will I be seen running around trees, not even in a dream sequence," say Esha. Her role is that of an air hostess. "My character is experienced and believes in herself and helps the protagonist, played by Shiney Ahuja, with all her experience in rescuing the passengers."
