Sonali Bendre and husband Goldie Behl are very close to the Bachchan family. And it was infact at the music launch of Goldie Behl’s Drona that Jaya Bachchan made her infamous statement about using Hindi language. Stepping out in the limelight for the first time since that incident, Sonali says that Jaya’s remarks were casual and not intended at anyone.
"It happened during Drona music launch and I was there at the event. It was just a casual remark. Obviously few people felt bad about that remark and that is why both Jayaji and Amitji have apologized. I think the matter over now and we should also put a full stop to it," says the actress.
Sonali is also a close friend of Raj Thackeray but being a Maharashtrian herself, Bendre says she did not take any offence to what was said. "I did not feel anything odd when I heard that sentence in the event but when we came at home and saw it on television then we realized what had happened. As a Maharashtrian too I did not felt that she said anything with a purpose."
"It was surprising for us too. Like I said I was there and I know that she had no such intention. She is an elder and experienced too and we should respect her and leave this matter over here only," adds Sonali, "Jayaji was very emotional that time as she was very close to Goldie’s father. She ended her speech by saying that she is dedicating this to him. Actaully she said that particular sentence to my husband who was giving a speech in English. She told him that you have made a movie in Hindi and you are not talking to anyone in Hindi. She told that both Abhishek and Goldie talk so much in English. This is her usual complaint and like a mother only she was telling this to Goldie. But this thing went ahead in a different way."
