Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan will be honoured with the World Economic Forum’s Crystal Award at Davos later this month for his contribution to the world of art. Bachchan, who has ruled the Indian screens for as long as three decades, would get the award on January 31, along with another Indian artist - Mallika Sarabhai - a Kuchipudi and Bharatnatyam danseuse.
Crystal Award pays tribute to decisive role of arts and culture in creation of global understanding and peace. The award would be another feather in the cap of Bachchan, whose popularity in Bollywood hasn’t dipped despite his 60 plus age. In fact, the actors like Aamir Khan and Akshay Kumar recently proclaimed that Big B is still number one in Hindi film industry.
The World Economic Forum (WEF) is a Geneva-based non-profit foundation known for its annual meeting, which brings together top business leaders, international political leaders, selected intellectuals and journalists to discuss the most pressing issues facing the world, including health and environment. The over-reaching theme of this year’s event, starting January 28, is ‘Shaping the Post-Crisis World’.
