The Slumdog Millionaire star has reportedly bagged a film to be directed by Manoj Night Shyamalan .
With the international success of ‘Slumdog’, many new doors have opened for Dev Patel, a Gujarati boy from London. The 18-year-old actor has now been roped in by ‘The Sixth Sense’ director for his next flick, ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’.
According to Variety, the role went to Dev after Shyamalan’s first choice, pop star Jesse McCartney’s tour dates conflicted with the dates the director wanted.
“Jesse had tour dates that conflicted with a boot camp I always hold on my films, and where the actors here have to train for martial arts,” Shyamalan is quoted by Variety.
Now, Jesse has been replaced by Dev for the role of Zuko.
Shyamalan added that Dev was “already one of the guys I was interested in. Then I saw ‘Slumdog Millionaire’, and the kid just grew in my eyes.”
To be presented by Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Films, ‘The Last Airbender’ is a live action movie based on Nickelodeon series. The movie also stars Jackson Rathbone, Nicola Peltz and Noah Ringer.
