Constantly exposed to the shutterbugs, the camera might not be their best friend. But when it comes to playing a photographer on celluloid, Bollywood ’s leading men are more than willing. We takes a look at some of the actors-turned-photographers on screen.
Aamir Khan, Deewana Mujhsa Nahin
While Aamir Khan and Madhuri Dixit made a super-hit jodi in Indra Kumar’s Dil, Deewana Mujhsa Nahin wasn’t all that fortunate. Despite its eminently forgettable standing, it deserves a mention for AK’s cutely bespectacled and amusingly obsessive turn as a besotted, stalking shutterbug.
Rahul Bose, Mr and Mrs Iyer
In Aparna Sen’s tenderly told story of rare relationships and encounters, Rahul Bose plays an ardent wildlife photographer. Considering Bose’s efficiency at bringing a sense of realism to the roles he plays, here too, the actor is credibility-personified employing the tiniest of opportunities to articulate the nuances of his profession.
Saif Ali Khan, Biwi No 1
One saw very little of Saif in David Dhawan’s money-making no-brainer. Then again, what do you expect from a guest appearance, anyway? This one has Kareena Kapoor’s tattooed sweetheart playing Sushmita Sen’s dumped photographer boyfriend who is more than happy to have her back in his life after she’s dumped by Salman Khan.
Amitabh Bachchan, Nishabd
Not just content with shooting the hopelessly beautiful surroundings of him home in Munnar, Amitabh Bachchan steps out with his Canon to capture his daughter’s capricious best bud in action. Unlike his poetic pictures though, the consequences of their potential liaison are most tricky in Ram Gopal Varma’s Lolitaesque romance.
Akshay Kumar, John Abraham, Garam Masala
Priyadarshan’s loopy comedy about two lascivious photographers may be nowhere in the same league as Hera Pheri but it sure gave Bollywood’s resident hunks -- Akshay Kumar and John Abraham -- the perfect platform to chase skimpily-clad models in lieu of their camera.
Fardeen Khan, Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya
Besides taking inspiration from Hollywood’s Fatal Attraction, PTTK also got noticed for Urmila Matondkar’s chic bob and oft-witnessed delirium. Just the kind of wild inspiration, Fardeen Khan, who plays a flirtatious fashion photographer on the lookout for fresh faces, has in mind.
John Abraham, Dostana
If you forgot to pay attention to anything else besides John Abraham’s sexy beach avatar in Dostana, here’s some news. The model-turned-actor actually plays a Miami-based fashion photographer in Tarun Mansukhani’s celebration/mockery (as you like it!) of gay love.
Neil Nitin Mukesh, Aa Dekhen Zara
It’s been a long wait for Neil Nitin Mukesh. After 2007’s breakthrough con caper, Johnny Gaddar, the pale-faced actor is back with a smouldering Bipasha Basu and paranormal-friendly camera in tow. Apparently, Neil took special lessons in photography to master its technique.
