First Lady Michelle Obama is about to become only the second president’s wife to be featured on the cover of Vogue magazine.Photographer-to-the-stars Annie Leibovitz snapped shots of the new first lady at the Hay-Adams Hotel, where the Obama stayed prior to the Inauguration.

Since Herbert Hoover’s wife, Lou, appeared in 1929, nearly every first lady has been snapped for the venerable magazine.Obama’s magenta dress was designed by Jason Wu, who also created her inaugural gown.
