Exclusive:TV stars glued on to the IPL

While we watch soaps and reality shows, television stars seem to be glued on to the Indian Premier League matches. We asked some of the stars to tell us which team they’re rooting for. Here’s what they said:

Pulkit Samrat

Claim to fame: His character Lakshya in Kyunk Ki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi.

Deccan Chargers is my favourite team. They were in bottom two last season but I can bet that this time, they will rock. They have big-hitting batsmen and brilliant fielders. My favourite player is Adam Gilchrist.

Claim to fame: Her Pia role in Kasamh Se, Comedy Circus

I am rooting for Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals. Knight Riders, because it’s Shah Rukh Khan’s team. I like the players as well. Rajasthan Royals, because they were the underdogs last year and yet they maintained their star value. I hope they play to their potential this year. I hope we have good matches this year like we did in the first season of the IPL.

Debina Boneerji

Claim to fame: She plays the beautiful Sita in Ramayana

I have a soft corner for Kolkata Knight Riders because I am from Kolkata. Sourav Ganguly is another reason. I have being watching him play for many years and he’s my favourite player. Shah Rukh Khan is the USP of the team.Last year, Kolkata Knight Riders started off well but didn’t continue in the same vein. This time they didn’t start off well, so maybe that’s a good sign that they will do well in the coming matches and last till the finals.

Chaitanya Chaudhary

Claim to fame: Zara Nachke Dikha, Sangam.

I have been watching the IPL matches regularly though I have missed out a couple. Being a Mumbaite, I am supporting Mumbai Indians. The team is well-balanced with good and upcoming players of international standards. They have a very good chance of winning because of players like Sachin Tendulkar, [Sri Lankan batsman] Sanath Jayasurya and [South African batsman] J P Duminy.

Hussain Kujerwala

Claim to fame: The popular host of Indian Idol Season 4, Kumkum

I am rooting for Mumbai Indians because Sachin Tendulkar is my favourite cricketer. I’m from Mumbai, so Mumbai Indians is my home team as well. They didn’t do too well last year, that’s why I want them to shine this year. And it looks like they’re doing a good job.

Amit Varma

Claim to fame: Hotel Kingston, Baa Bahu Aur Baby

I am rooting for my home team Mumbai Indians. Sachin Tendulakar is my favourite cricketer. Also, Sachin and Jayasurya will bat together - it’ll be a delight watching them play together.It’s a tough competition and I hope they win. If they don’t win, I hope they reach the semis or the finals at least.

Amit Tandon

Claim to fame: Indian Idol participant, Kaisa Yeh Pyaar, Shurat, Nafrat Aur Showbiz

I don’t follow IPL regularly but I do watch the matches whenever I get time. I have no favourite players or teams as such. But since I am a Punjabi, I would support the Kings XI Punjab team. Otherwise I don’t mind whoever wins the game.

Claim to fame: Koshish, Astitva Ek Prem Kahani, Jjhoom India, Aek Chabi Hai Pados Mein

I watch cricket because I love the game. But I don’t have any favourite teams or players. I cheer for the players, who perform well. It doesn’t matter from which team he plays for.
