Although IN WHICH ANNIE GIVES IT THOSE ONES and Mani Kaul’s IDIOT are officially his initial projects, Shah Rukh Khan burst into the scene as the obsessive lover of the late Divya Bharti in Raj Kanwar’s DEEWANA (1992). With films like BAAZIGAR (1993), DARR (1993) and DILWALE DULHANIA LE JAYENGE (1995), SRK zoomed into the top slot of Bollywood and has stayed right up there. And despite fierce competition from other actors, he is yet to abdicate his throne, such is his charm and global fan following.
A unique and creditable feature of SRK’s tenure as an actor is that from 1992 onwards, every year has seen at least one or more major starrer from King Khan.
However, 2009 will turn out to be an uneventful one for Shah Rukh Khan (as well as his countless fans!), as this year has the dubious distinction of not witnessing any film release from the superstar. People may argue that BILLU did release earlier this year, but the fact of the matter is that Shah Rukh Khan was in an extended special appearance in the film and it was Irrfan Khan who essayed the main lead in the title role. Even DULHA MIL GAYA (if it releases this year!) has SRK in a special appearance.
The only major Shah Rukh Khan starrer, Karan Johar’s MY NAME IS KHAN , which could have released in 2009, has already been postponed to next year.
So, it’s going to be a long wait ahead for Shah Rukh’s fans who were hoping to catch him in action later this year!
