Yash Raj Films is planning to sue Suchita Bhatia after the writer claimed that New York plagiarises one of her scripts.
Bhatia suggested that the makers of New York had drawn extensively on a script she had presented to the studio three years ago.
However, the film’s writer and director Kabir Khan rejected the accusations, telling the Times of India: "This is really unfortunate. I wonder which cave this girl was living in so far to suddenly wake up five days after our film is released to realise that New York is about three friends against a 9/11 backdrop.
"It’s a great method of getting her 15 minutes of fame. Yes, we’re planning to sue her and make an example of this sort of post-success harassment that filmmakers go through."
New York, which stars John Abraham, Katrina Kaif and Neil Nitin Mukesh, has been hailed as a box office hit after entering the UK chart at number nine.
