It was wonderful working with Kajol again who’s been a special part of my journey in films. With Farah, Karan and Kajol, it’s an easy relationship. We respect each other’s talents and don’t ask anything from each other. We just bond. If there was one last film that I could do with Kajol, it would be My Name Is Khan though I hope there will be more.
I don’t think Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge or Kuch Kuch Hota Hai can have a sequel. They had happily-ever-after endings. Why would you want to see them married and with children? If you do want to know how happy Raj and Simran are, you can always watch My Name Is Khan.
It’s an entertaining emotional love story without any songs and dances that deals with three core issues. It’s about how religion defines you and how we must look at each other’s faiths with love.
The Indian media is quick to jump to conclusions. They say it’s a desi Rain Man. I say Rain Man was about an autistic man, this one is about guy who is afflicted with the asperger syndrome. The intellectuals are making things too complex, we need simple guys like Khan to solve the issues of the world.
The film is also an educational look at the way the West views the East without being jingoistic. My detention at Newark airport was blown out of proportion and it was being said that I used it to promote my film. I don’t make films with any ill feelings or to prove a point. It was no big deal really but a techno-savvy country like the US can afford to make the checking process easier for those who visit it regularly. That’s all I have to say. Period.
