Actor Anil Kapoor rings in his birthday. What can one say about Anil. This is one actor who refuses to age and has managed to maintain his looks down the years. Now his daughter Sonam too has joined the industry as an actress and Anil is still going strong. He celebrates his 50th birthday and some thirty odd years in the industry.
While it is true that for a while things were not so hunky dory for the actor but he managed to bounce back with ’Slumdog Millionaire’. The film went to win critical accolades all over the world and suddenly Anil was back in the reckoning. His beginnings were rather humble as he began his acting debut with a Kannada film, ’Pallavi Anu Pallavi’ directed by Mani Ratnam.
There was film that he did with M. S. Sathyu, ’Kahan Kahan Se Guzar Gaye’, besides small roles in movies like ’Hamare Tumhare’. But it was ’Woh Saat Din’ which saw him making his presence felt as an actor. Then followed films like ’Hum Paanch’, ’Shakti’, ’Mashaal’, ’Mr. India’, ’Meri Jung’, ’Tezaab’, ’Jaanbaaz’, ’Karma’, ’Ram Lakhan’, ’Parinda’, ’Kishan Kanhaiya’, ’Eeshwar’, ’Lamhe’, ’1942: A Love Story’, ’Beta’, ’Virasaat’, ’Pukar’, ’Taal’, ’Biwi No 1’, ’No Entry’ and Anil was all over. In recent years, he established his own production house so that he could make movies that he believed in. The first film out of his stable was ’Gandhi My Father’ directed by Feroz Abbas Khan, a noted theatre director.
Unlike most actors, he did not think it necessary to act in the film and was content to produce a good movie. The last couple of years or so has seen him back with films like ’Welcome’, ’Tashan’, ’Race’ and ’Yuvvraj’. Unlike his contemporaries like Jackie Shroff, who was a strong competition for him, Anil has managed to survive while Jackie’s career is practically non existent. Anil has honed his acting skills while working for directors like Shekhar Kapoor , Subhash Ghai and Vidhu Vinod Chopra.
In fact, Ghai has played a major role in Anil’s career as he has always come back to him, just as he did recently in ’Black and White’ and ’Yuvvraj’. While there is no doubting Anil’s talent, he can play a tapori just as well as he can play a sober, angst ridden professor of Black and White. He has a range and is capable of delivering the goods. We would like to wish him a very happy birthday. We hope to see a lot more of you in the coming year.
