A.R. Rahman seems to be on a winning streak! Until last year he was in the news for the music of Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire and 2011 has begun on a high note again for this duo - the music of this British filmmaker’s latest project 127 Hours composed by ARR has bagged the Critics’ Choice award for the Most Original Score.
The song If I rise has been written by Rollo Armstrong and Dido. The inspiring number comes in the form of a collaboration with Dido, with the composer himself rendering the vocals alongside the singer. In 127 Hours, the music plays an important role and the soundtrack has also been rated high in the international circuit.
This film has already been nominated for 68th Golden Globe Awards, for Best Original Score, which is scheduled for January 16 in California. About being nominated for the second time at Golden Globes, Rahman (in an earlier interview to DC) had said that it is a very important film for him in terms of music. “It was for the same filmmaker’s earlier flick Slumdog Millionaire where I was awarded the Golden Globe in 2009. It feels good that I’ve been nominated for the second time in the international arena.”
Meanwhile Rahman who has said that he wants to take a break and go easy on projects has confirmed to this newspaper that he has signed the animation project Monkeys of Bollywood (working title), a Bollywood style animated musical adventure set in modern-day Mumbai with DreamWorks Animation SKG. The Mozart of Madras is already in Glendale, California and collaborating with DreamWorks.
