Model-turned-beggar gets new lease of life
A ’MODEL’ LIFE: Former model Geetanjali Nagpal now sports a new look and is looking forward to her new life.
Former model Geetanjali Nagpal, who recently hit the headlines for begging on the streets of the Capital, is all set to make a new beginning.
A Delhi court had sent the 33-year-old model to a rehabilitation centre after her story was widely reported in the media two months ago. Now Gitanjali will be spending the next three months with her mother in Vidya Devi Jindal Girls School in Hisar, Haryana.
"We want to create such an environment for Gitanjali that’s away from the public eye. Here, she’ll be treated as a person and not as a model," says the Principal of Vidyadevi Jindal High School, Gunvinder Kaur.
Gitanjali will be allowed to try her hand at everything she wants, from cycling and gardening to cooking. She is also keen on taking up a vocational course in fashion studies, which is her favourite subject.
Although, Gitanjali’s doctor is hopeful that she will return to the fashion world as a professional, he puts in a word of caution.
"People are ready to launch her, but as of now, modelling is a big no-no. Her colleagues need to be apprised of her illness first," says consulting psychiatrist at VIMHANS, Dr Jitendra Nagpal.
Gitanjali’s doctor says spending quality time with her mother will go a long way in ensuring her recovery. And even if it’s one of the initial steps, it will form the base of her return to normal life.
