His family, comprising yesteryear actress Leena Chandavarkar and sons Amit and Sumeet, have agreed to let a production house make a biopic on the life and times of Kishore da. Several producers had tried before, but Leena, the singer’s fourth wife, always objected because she didn’t want such a film to be made on a small scale. “This is a mega project, the budget is going to be around 50-60 crore,” Leena told BT yesterday, announcing the film on Kishore’s 79th birth anniversary. “We have not finalised the cast yet but Renzil D’Silva, who wrote Rang De Basanti, is working on the story.”
The singer, who was also a successful lyricist, composer, producer, director, screenwriter and scriptwriter, had been married to four beautiful women - Ruma Devi, Madhubala, Yogita Bali and Leena Chandavarkar - so there will be four actresses in the film.
Leena, who has been thinking of a comeback to films (and reportedly getting into shape for the same), will tell Kishore’s story through a flashback. Sons Amit and Sumeet might be singing in the film. But it is not known whether Ruma Devi, the singer’s first wife and mother of Amit, will also appear in the film alongwith Leena. Or if Yogita Bali, who subsequently married Mithun Chakraborty and is the mother of Bollywood newcomer Mimoh, will play a role. And who will be the actresses playing the other wives.
