You are what you wear. While some like it classic. Others dig everything ’in’. But as long as the results look wow, who are we to complain? This year too, many of Bollywood’s charming folk stepped out in the limelight, dressed to kill in sparkling designer attire, which not only complimented their personality but also gave a strong reflection of their taste. Nine times out of 10, others approved too.
And so, as the New Year gets ready to greet us, we give you Bollywood’s Ten Best-Dressed Stars of 2008. Read on to know who made it and who missed:
Katrina Kaif
The stars continue to glimmer in Katrina’s favour. Even though Yuvvraaj tank, Singh is Kinng and Race’s success more than made up for it. Courtesy these high-profile releases, one got to see a lot of her and most of these public appearances were quite a treat as she dazzled the shutterbugs in delicate chiffons, elegant gowns, hip dresses or strawberry pink saris.
Priyanka Chopra
Style had a major part to play in Priyanka Chopra’s two major hits this year. While in Fashion she essayed the role of a supermodel, Dostana had her get into the skin of a Miami-based fashion journalist. The trend bug seems to have bit the girl for good what with her appearing constantly-in-character when it comes to events and dos. Needless to say, we love the new and improved Piggy Chops.
Bipasha Basu
Even as we struggle to keep track of Bips ever-changing haircuts, the Bachna Ae Haseeno babe can pretty much carry off anything on that smoldering hot body. But we really, really dig her chic ’n’ cool version of the LBD.
Deepika Padukone
Retro, sporty, glamorous, ethnic, the gorgeous model-turned-actress is a clothes horse in the truest sense of the word.
Besides dressing up in a lot of Manish Malhotras and Shantanu-Nikhils, Deepika made quite a few jaws drop in an ethereal blue creation by Marc Jacobs. In fact, you might have caught her in the same outfit romancing Venice in the Bachna Ae Haseeno love ditty, Khuda jaane co-starring boyfriend Ranbir Kapoor.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan
Whether the backdrop is royalty or corporate, Ash loves to surprise us with a new look each and every time. Ditto for the red carpet. Be it solo or cosy hand-in-hand appearances with hubby Abhishek, Mrs Bachchan looked simply sensational in her sequinned saris, crispy formals or hot-as-hell Cannes numbers.
Dia Mirza
You’ll be forgiven for not having any recollection of her last release but when it comes to fashion, Dia Mirza is totally ’with it’. Her sophisticated turn at premieres and parties goes on to prove just that. Look how she’s upped the ante of a minimalistic black dress with a smart mix of accessories.
Preity Zinta
PZ defines fashion as comfort. To her credit, the impeccably turned out star looks as much home in a Kings XI jersey and jeans as she does in this prim ’n’ propah outfit befitting a Derby event, complete with a hat and over-sized belt. We think she rocks in both the avatars. What about you?
Akshay Kumar
Akshay Kumar can carry off any trend with flying colours. Quite literally. Give him pink, purple or orange, he’ll rock them all. A genuine adventurer when it comes to style, the man looks impossibly good in anything he chooses to wear. Currently, India’s Sexiest Man Alive is big on sleeveless vests, both plain and patterned.
Shah Rukh Khan
Surinder Sahni? Boring. Raj? Jarring! The man behind it all, however, strikes a fine note of traditional and class when it comes to his off-screen appearances. Whether he steps out of (his mansion) Mannat in a simple black and white kurta-pajama to greet his well-wishers on Eid or goes all out to promote his only release this year in a spiffy jacket and jeans, SRK is dressed up for the occasion.
John Abraham
While his fans are still drooling over his skimpy yellow number in Dostana, John Abraham continues to make a yummy statement even in an ordinary shirt and regular pair of jeans.
