The much-promoted, much-awaited Chandni Chowk to China will probably go down in history as the worst film. But its lead star Akshay Kumar’s happiness knows no bounds. His dream run continues despite the harshest of harsh reviews. Olympians cry foul while several other Indian celebs sigh and dream of holding it. But Akshay has already been bestowed with the highest Indian honour- a Padmashri.
Before he could officially receive the award, we landed up at his Mumbai home to catch him revelling in the joy. But it looked like the feeling hadn’t sunk in totally. “I’m feeling great. I feel honoured. At the same time, I don’t know how to react. I’m speechless at something so unexpected. It came without notice but I’m welcoming it,” he said. A Star Screen award for popularity, an FHM award for style icon and now the ultimate Indian recognition, Akki seems to have started the year with a bang.
The disastrous outcome of Chandni Chowk to China and a lukewarm response to animated film Jumbo, notwithstanding. He’s as grounded as he ever was though. “I’d like to thank Mr Pramod Chathurvedi, who brought me into this line and taught me how to be successful and also my father,” he said. The credit also goes to the undying support and love of wife Twinkle and son Aarav. While we’re on Twinkle, it was reported that the former actress was peeved at Akki giving away his Star Screen award to Aamir Khan. How true is that and how did the missus react? Find out.
