Is CC2C biographical?
I love my character. Its so much like me. If I didn’t have to appear in public I would walk, talk and dress just like Sidhu. Come to think of it, Sidhu is a man I was once in Bangkok. The purpose of the journey is different but the drama is definitely the same. I have fought as many villains in this movie as I have in my career. While doing this movie I was in Kung fu heaven.
You are playing a chef in the film. So if you had to describe it in food terms, what would you call it?
It’s like chicken tikka and chow mein soup. If you don’t like the flavour of this I suggest you see a doctor because there is something wrong with your taste buds.
How was it working with Gordon Liu?
Unforgettable !! You know how fans react when they see Aamir Khan, how they run behind him. That’s how I see Gordon Liu. I have admired him...his martial arts since the beginning. He’s an honorable man. It was superb working with him. In my childhood I have literally trained in his footsteps... right from 36 Shaolin all the way to Kill Bill. On the sets he helped me improve my Chinese and I improved his Hindi.
There have been many firsts in CC2C like shooting on the Great Wall of China. Tell us about that.
Unbelievable !! We had a fabulous experience shooting on the ancient legendary monument of the world - the Great Wall of China. It was spiritually breath taking. Probably the high light of our shoot. This film just has legends and legendary things. Its magical...
And not to forget working with Mithun Chakraborty...
This is the first time I’m working with him. He’s a classic actor and a very warm human being. It was a pleasure to work with him and the connection I felt with him as my father figure was very very touching. I hope u feel it too by watching the film.
The film also took you back to Chandni Chowk... the place you started out in.
Yes... shooting in Chandni Chowk was a unique experience. I was born there. I thought it was sheer madness to shoot there deep in the narrow gallis. The people there were overwhelming. Also I’m an expert regarding the food available there so I treated the unit to the best delicacies there - Chandni Chowk’s parathe vali galli
And finally working with the likes of Dee Dee Ku... that must have been another high.
Dee Dee Ku -t he action choreographer - is a true Hong Kong character. He is super quick. Whenever he would have a crazy stunt ideas, one couldn’t figure if he was serious or joking - whatever it is your surely in trouble. He’s incredible in his field. And I trusted him with my life. If I would have met him before my life would be different. He’s worked on movies like Kill Bill, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon and The Matrix and has only worked with the best. So pleasing him was like squeezing blood from a stone . When he says Akshay the take is ok...thats a huge compliment coming from him.
