We are not talking about any comic version of the delightful character of Munnabhai, created by Rajkumar Hirani. But we are talking about a book on the screenplay of the film, ’Lage Raho Munnabhai’ . The film which talks about Gandhigiri was chosen by producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra and director Hirani to be the first released in a book form as a screenplay in collaboration with Om Books International.
The launch of the book was well attended by all the actors of the movie, like ’Munnabhai’ Sanjay Dutt , who was there along with his Circuit, Arshad Warsi, Boman Irani and Vidya Balan. The Munnabhai book will have dialogues and pictures from the film as well.
There will some 20 pages of pictures from the movie which will come in the middle of the book, thereby acting as a break or interval. Chopra, is believed to be quite excited about the project and would now like to take out a book on all of his films, beginning from ’Parinda’, right down to the yet to be released ’3 Idiots’.
One should not look at it as a mere book launch, but a significant step in which the written word is gaining importance in Hindi cinema. It also works the other way round as it seems to signify a growing need for literature on Hindi films as well.
