The late Raj Kapoor made many great movies in his long career as producer director actor but ’Awaara’ was something special and something unique. This iconic film celebrates its 60th anniversary on December 12 and it is an occasion which is not going unnoticed.
Noted documentary filmmaker and writer Nasreen Munni Kabir is releasing a book on the dialogues of the film, which will be available in Hindi, Urdu and English, along with a commentary on the movie and some of its powerful stills. The occasion has assumed significance as the filmmaker’s son, Randhir Kapoor has been creatively involved in the project.
Shashi Kapoor, who played the role of junior Raj Kapoor in the movie, is also expected to a part of the function along with Randhir, who also had a cameo in the movie. In fact, Randhir is planning to make the book launch an occasion for the entire Kapoor khandaan to get together and support the venture.
While he and Raajiv Kapoor are likely to be present, it would be a little tricky for him to try and ensure that the younger generation consisting of Kareena and Ranbir too are able to make it to the launch as both are extremely busy actors. In fact, so is his brother Rishi Kapoor. As for Shammi and Shashi, both are suffering from health issues. ’Awaara’ was written by V. P. Sathe and Khwaja Ahmed Abbas, directed by Raj Kapoor. It starred the showman opposite Nargis, with his father Prithviraj Kapoor also playing a major role in the movie.
