If Deepa Mehta has her way, we might see actresses Vidya Balan and Rani Mukherjee playing sisters in her screen adaptation of author Salman Rushdie’s Booker winning novel Midnight’s Children.
Mehta has already finalized Rani for the film and she recently met Vidya as well. The director wants them to play siblings in the movie. However, the alleged animosity between the two actresses might throw a spanner in Mehta’s plans.
The cold vibes between Vidya and Rani date back to the days when director Pradeep Sarkar chose to cast Rani in his Laaga Chunari Mein Daag after directing Vidya in his previous movie Parineeta.
However, Mehta is unlikely to be affected by personal scruples of the two actresses.
“I see them as sisters. They are both lovely. I am dying to work with them together,” Deepa is quoted as saying in a media report.
Interestingly, the movie will also have Salman Rushdie in a cameo appearance.
