And the winner of the Best Actress Oscar goes to Kate Winslet ... or does it? Two days before Sunday night’s Academy Awards, A list purporting to show the winners was leaked on the internet.
The document claims that Miss Winslet, 33, will finally achieve her dream of winning the golden statuette for her role in The Reader after five failed nominations.
It also suggests that British director Danny Boyle will land the Best Director award and see his hit movie Slumdog Millionaire named Best Picture. The claims are made on an authentic-looking document which claims to have an official letterhead.
It reads: ’This is the final list of winners of the 81st Annual Academy Awards: As always, please treat this information with extreme care.’ The document apparently carries the signature of Sid Ganis, president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which presents the Oscars.
Organisers of the star-studded Hollywood event have insisted that the list was a fake. Academy spokesman Leslie Unger said votes were still being counted by accountants PricewaterhouseCoopers.
’The document is a complete fraud,’ she added. ’There are only two people there who will know The complete list of winners in advance of the envelopes being opened during the ceremony.
’The Academy’s president is not advised of the winners in advance and no such list is created.’
